About People First Healthcare
A family-run aged care provider, delivering Support at Home and privately funded care across Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide since 2017.
What we do
We're an approved aged care provider. We deliver Support at Home packages and privately funded care in people's own homes across Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide: help with showering and dressing, nursing, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, transport to appointments, cleaning, home modifications, and company for people who don't get enough of it.
The reason people call is almost always practical. A parent has had a fall. A discharge nurse has said someone can't go home without support in place. A husband who has looked after his wife for three years has reached the point where he can't manage the lifting on his own. Nobody rings an aged care provider for the fun of it, and we try to answer accordingly.
Since 2017
People First Healthcare Pty Ltd was incorporated in September 2017. Our My Aged Care provider ID is 38676. That's the number you'll need if you decide to nominate us once a package is assigned, and the number to search if you'd rather check us against the government register than take our word for it.
In that time we've supported more than 5,000 families, and there are now over 300 carers, nurses and allied health professionals working under our name. We work from three sites. Head office is Tenancy 5, Level 1, 15 Vaughan Street, Essendon Fields. Roxburgh Park, at 25E/250 Somerton Road, is a community centre. In New South Wales there's an office and community centre at 60 Ware Street, Fairfield, in western Sydney. None of them is somewhere you need to visit to arrange care. They're where rostering, care management and the phones sit. The care itself happens in your kitchen and your bathroom.
The family behind the name
People First Healthcare was established by Dr Mohammed Al Ebrahimi, and the Al Ebrahimi family still runs it. Karima Al Ebrahimi has been part of the business from the beginning. Ali Al Ebrahimi joined in an operational role in 2023.
Nearly every provider in this industry describes itself as family-run, so the phrase has stopped meaning much. What it means here is that the people deciding how care gets delivered have their own name on the company, and that when something isn't working you can reach one of them without going through three layers of account management first.
Four addresses since 2017
Lalor, Thomastown, Roxburgh Park, Essendon Fields. The premises the business has worked out of, in order.
Lalor
People First Healthcare Pty Ltd was incorporated in September 2017. The first premises was a shopfront in Lalor, in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
Thomastown
The second office. Thomastown sits next door to Lalor, so the catchment stayed exactly where it was.
Roxburgh Park
An office on Somerton Road, further north again. It's still open, now running as a community centre.
Essendon Fields
Head office moved to Essendon Fields. Roxburgh Park stayed open, and so did Fairfield in western Sydney.
Who we're for
We care for people aged 65 and over, and that includes a lot of people the sector is not especially good at reaching. Older Australians from migrant communities, who may have arrived decades ago and are now losing the English they learned in their forties. People who are socially isolated. People who are financially stretched and worried a call to a provider will end in a bill they can't cover.
Our carers between them speak a wide range of languages, which is not a diversity statement so much as a practical fact about the suburbs we work in. Broadmeadows, Dandenong, Fairfield, Cabramatta and Bankstown are among the most linguistically diverse places in the country. Tell us which language you'd prefer on the first call and we'll match where we can.
What we value
Six values, written down some years ago and still the ones we're measured against.
Respect
Recognising and working with people's differences and preferences rather than around them.
Commitment
Health, wellbeing and happiness held together, not traded off against each other.
Compassion
Working with families as well as the person, over the long run rather than visit by visit.
Integrity
Services you can see the workings of, including what they cost.
Honesty
Open and fair with Participants, families, staff and anyone else with a stake in it, including when the answer is no.
Consumer directed care
The person receiving the care decides how it runs. We work to their plan, not ours.
Participants, not clients
We call the people we care for Participants rather than clients or customers. It sounds like a small thing and it is mostly a small thing, but the words a company uses about people tend to leak into how it treats them. A customer buys a service. A Participant is someone we've agreed to work with, on care built around them specifically.
How care actually gets arranged
The first conversation is a phone call and it costs nothing. We ask where you're up to, because the answer changes everything that follows.
If you already have an approved Support at Home package, you'll have a referral code from My Aged Care. Give us that code and we'll set up a service agreement, work through what your quarterly budget will cover, and get a care coordinator out to the house.
If you're waiting on an assessment, or you haven't started one, we'll explain how the process runs and what the assessor is likely to ask. We don't carry out the assessment ourselves, because that's done independently of any provider. What we can do is tell you what usually happens next and be straight with you about how long it tends to take.
If you'd rather not wait, you can pay privately and start now. A lot of people do exactly that, then move onto their package when it's assigned and keep the same carer through the change.
Once you're with us, a care coordinator visits your home. Not to sell you anything, but to look at the shower, the step at the back door and the height of the bed, and to hear what a normal day currently involves. The care plan comes out of that visit rather than out of a form.
Then we match you with a carer, and that's the part that decides whether the whole arrangement works. We match on the practical things people are often too polite to ask for: a carer of a particular gender for personal care, someone who speaks your first language, someone who can come early enough that you're dressed before your grandson arrives. Say what you want on the first call. It's far easier to set up properly than to change six weeks in.
Nothing about that sequence is fixed. Needs change, usually gradually and occasionally overnight, and the plan is meant to change with them. Reviews happen because a plan written in March rarely still fits in October.
Where we work
Across Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. Coverage isn't uniform and it would be misleading to imply otherwise. In Melbourne it runs deepest through the northern and western corridors near the Essendon Fields office, and we also work through the south-east and the east. In New South Wales we work out of Fairfield across western Sydney. The locations pages list the suburbs. If yours isn't there, call and ask rather than assume, because carer availability moves around and the answer this month might not be the answer last month.
Working here
We're generally looking for more people: support workers, personal care attendants, registered and enrolled nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and care coordinators. The careers page sets out what the work involves and what we ask for.
Talk to us
Call 1800 434 002, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, or send an enquiry through the contact page. If you don't yet know what you need, that's the ordinary starting point rather than a problem. Have a look at what we offer first if you'd like some idea of the vocabulary before you ring.
