The top of our run
Parramatta sits at the northern end of what we cover from 60 Ware Street, five stops up the Cumberland line through Yennora, Guildford, Merrylands and Harris Park. That's a real drive rather than a hop, and it shows up at the margins: coverage in 2150 is genuine, but an early-morning shift with a specific language attached can take longer to fill here than it would two suburbs from the office.

Living in a unit changes the job
Most in-home care advice assumes a house: a back step, a hallway you can widen, a bathroom you can rip out. A large share of older Parramatta residents live in apartments, either in the towers that have gone up around the CBD or in a red-brick walk-up from the seventies, and the problems are different ones.
Walk-ups are the hard case. No lift, a flight of stairs between the front door and the street, and no way to get a wheelchair down them. In the newer buildings the lift is fine but the bathroom is small enough that two people can't fit in it, which matters when someone needs a hand in the shower.
An occupational therapist through allied health can write the assessment a strata committee will accept, and the work inside the unit runs through home modifications. Rails beside the toilet and in the shower, a raised seat, better lighting on the internal steps. Small things, and most of what keeps someone in their own flat.
Westmead is close, which cuts both ways
Westmead Hospital is a few minutes away and the light rail runs there from the Parramatta CBD, so the trip is manageable for anyone who's well. For a person leaving after a long admission it's a different journey: the walk from the light rail stop, the size of the campus, and the number of separate clinics a single patient can be booked into. Transport and post-discharge in-home nursing are the two things families here ask for first.
Harris Park and what people eat
Parramatta and Harris Park have one of the largest South Asian populations in Sydney, and the restaurant strip along Wigram Street is only the visible part of it. The languages we're asked for here are Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and Malayalam, alongside Arabic, Mandarin and Korean. We ask families to name the actual language, because South Asian isn't one, and a Punjabi-speaking carer is no use to a Tamil-speaking grandmother.
Food follows the same logic. Vegetarian, halal and other religious requirements are instructions here rather than preferences. Meals and nutrition means cooking what someone will actually eat.

Can you put grab rails in a strata unit?
Inside the apartment, usually yes. Anything touching common property, a ramp at the entry, a handrail in a shared stairwell, needs the owners corporation to agree, and that approval is theirs to give rather than ours. What we can do is have an occupational therapist write the assessment that a strata committee will actually accept, which is normally the part that stalls.
Do you have Hindi, Punjabi or Tamil speaking carers in Parramatta?

Can a carer cook vegetarian meals?
Yes. Meal preparation is part of our meals and nutrition service and we take dietary and religious requirements as instructions, not preferences. A vegetarian meal service that keeps sending chicken is not a small annoyance, it is the reason an older person quietly stops eating.
Parramatta is the furthest north you go. Does that affect availability?
Sometimes, and we would rather say so. Everything runs from our Fairfield office, so Parramatta is the longest of our regular runs. Coverage is real but a particular combination of language, gender and time of day can take longer to fill here than it would in Fairfield or Cabramatta.
